{"id":55,"date":"2008-10-20T17:23:48","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T22:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.redrecondite.com\/blog\/?p=55"},"modified":"2013-04-30T17:00:26","modified_gmt":"2013-04-30T22:00:26","slug":"max-payne-blog-spam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.redrecondite.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/20\/max-payne-blog-spam\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Payne Blog Spam: Investigative Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Interesting.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8216;movie fan&#8217; posted a comment to my <a href=\"\/\/www.redrecondite.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/19\/review-max-payne-movie\/\">Awesome Max Payne Review<\/a>.\u00a0 I was suspicious, because, let&#8217;s be honest here, this blog isn&#8217;t exactly high-caliber reading material, despite the eloquence of that particular review.<\/p>\n<p>I searched for his comment in good ol&#8217; google, and it looks like the same text, &#8220;<a href=\"\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=&quot;i+suspect+the+storyline+for+Max+Payne+is+a+lot+more+exciting+when+it\u2019s+happening+in+the+form+of+a+video+game&quot;&amp;filter=0\">i suspect the storyline for Max Payne is a lot more exciting when it\u2019s happening in the form of a video game\u2026<\/a>&#8220;, has been posted everywhere else, with minor variations.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at movie fan&#8217;s link, <a href=\"\/\/www.kogmedia.com\/\">Kingdom of God Media<\/a>, and the typical motivation for blog spam simply isn&#8217;t there: there is no money to be made.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>There are no ads.<\/li>\n<li>He has a donate link, but I have difficulty imagining that gets much action.<\/li>\n<li>He does link to an <a href=\"\/\/www.amazon.com\/Church-As-Know-Christ-World\/dp\/1419663763\/\">Amazon.com page selling a book he wrote<\/a>, but that&#8217;s only on his other blog, <a href=\"\/\/www.booksbypatrick.com\/\">Books By Patrick<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And, true to its tag line, &#8220;<span>The Mysteries of God&#8217;s Kingdom Revealed Through Movies, Music and Television&#8221;, it does interpret movies, music, and television with a religious frame, but not a &#8216;convert the heathens&#8217; frame.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So, why?\u00a0 Why, <a href=\"\/\/www.blogger.com\/profile\/02397839550090715753\">Mr. Patrick Roberts<\/a>, why do you post the same comment everywhere?\u00a0 It is not a bad comment, sure, but what do you have to gain from it?<\/p>\n<p>By process of elimination, or perhaps by process of lack of imagination, I&#8217;m only left with &#8216;self promotion&#8217;.\u00a0 At the very bottom of his blog, there are several links to &#8216;blogtoplist&#8217;, &#8216;blogtoparea&#8217;, and other such blog-ranking web sites.\u00a0 By posting the same comment to multiple web sites, he is probably google-bombing his blog to a higher ranking.<\/p>\n<p>And, because of the very minor variations in the comment, and the fact that my anti-spam filter did not flag it, I am under the assumption that he went to each site and posted the comments himself, without the aid of a spam bot.<\/p>\n<p>So, I wondered how he found my eloquent review.\u00a0 While my review is perhaps the lowest ranked item in a standard <a href=\"\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=max payne review\">Google Search<\/a>, it is in the first few dozen hits for <a href=\"\/\/blogsearch.google.com\/blogsearch?q=max+payne+review\">Google Blog Search<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interesting.
